I’m the most scientific founder member of BirminghamIU and even though my first paranormal investigation was in 1996, I'm a long way behind my colleges when it comes to psychic abilities and awareness. I am however learning and have already experienced heavy feelings in some haunted locations and have even once managed a partial trance in the presence of various very experienced witnesses in the field of trance mediumship. I’ve been very keen to experience Astral Projection which is leaving one’s physical body using the spirit body or energy body (as described by Robert Bruce, a leading researcher in the field of Astral Projection). I have also been reading many books on the subject and often learning the art of Astral Projection also increases one’s psychic awareness. I’ve been having experiences occasionally for a while, but recently these have become quite frequent, especially when I’ve been going to bed at night. I will detail my most recent experience to date:

I went to bed and lay down thinking about Astral Projection, if one keeps thinking about it enough, it can actually cause an Astral Projection given time when one goes to bed. My room was dimly lit, I could still see, but not enough to disturb any sleep or astral projection. After a few failed attempts at Astral Projection using Robert Bruce's techniques, I moved over from my back onto my side expecting to go to sleep. I saw my bedroom door, leading onto the hall to the front door of my flat. When I closed my eyes, I noticed a heavy pressure in my head which I’ve felt before an Astral Projection in the past. As an experiment I decided to concentrate on my 3rd Eye which is known as a Chakra. The 3rd eye is just above your eyes, in the middle of your forehead head, above the nose. This spirit body organ allegedly allows one to see in the astral plane or the etheric plane which is where spirits exist in this universe. The pressure then concentrated around my 3rd eye and after a few minutes I saws blurred lights behind my closed eyelids. Suddenly I saw a flash and for an instant I saw my room from my side clearly. The flashes then became more frequent until after a few minutes, I could actually see the room clearly from my side. I was so surprised, I thought that I must have opened my physical eyes, but the flashes were quicker than an eye blink and I could actually still feel my eyelids closed shut. I then thought I’d try and get up to see if I could Astral Project and leave my body. I reached out with my arm and sat up partly, leaning over the side of my bed. I immediately thought the experiment was a failure as I’d actually moved my real physical body, not my spirit body over the side of the bed, but it slipped my mind that my eyelids were in fact still shut even though I could see everything from this new perspective. Without thinking, I opened my physical eyes. To my astonishment, I instantly found myself still lying on my side in the exact position I started in before the experiment. I came to the conclusion that I did in fact start leaving my physical body and it seemed so real that I didn’t even know it.

Later that evening, I actually managed to leave my body again, this time I thought of a location and actually saw flashing lights going past me as I was transported. Unfortunately I didn’t remember this whole experience and because of this I am now continuing to make a dream diary and astral projection diary as this trains oneself to remember out of body experiences. I know I actually spoke to someone too, probably my spirit guide, but sadly I couldn’t remember any more than this.

My friend and college Gareth has been Astral Projecting a lot lately and it’s fascinating to say the least, he can advise me further and compare notes.

Does anyone else have any Astral Projection experiences to share?

interesting?HuhHuh

The most scientific but you claim to be a psychic medium? exactly how scientific are you? when you get eveidence do you critically think about it? are orbs paranormal eveidence? do ghosts exist? what are ghosts? are mediums real? are you aware of how to implement the equipment you use?

i must point out a fault with your site.

you say the info is copy right protected but you have clearly copy and pasted the information on the equipment you use.
plus do you really know how to use the equipment?

Thanks tjsprt for you comments.

I have been properly trained on using the scientific equipment as I used to be a member of a very professional and purely scientific paranormal group called Midland Paranormal Investigators who provided regular training sessions. I had a knowledge of the paranormal well before this and attended my first overnight investigation in 1996. I have always had a mathematical and scientific brain, but I'm rather poor at creativity and artistic subjects. I am scientific and I am not a psychic medium, but it doesn't stop me experimenting with psychic techniques in my spare time and learning as much about the subject as possible. I started off quite sceptical about psychic abilities, but I became more open minded as I read various books on the subject. I have now experienced things that I cannot explain. I don't know for definite why I could see my room when I could feel my eyes closed shut. I can speculate that I'm seeing through my 3rd eye, but I can't say this as a scientific fact. It's possible I was mistaken and the vision was caused by a dream that was developed by thinking about the 3rd Eye, but the vision I saw did seem extremely real. I will however continue to experiment and I hope to learn further with an open mind.

I cannot say that psychic mediums are certainly real, when someone gets allegedly taken by a spirit, they are either faking it, they believe they are taken over by a spirit and are mistaken or they are really taken over by a spirit. I do however believe my colleges at the very least believe they have been taken by a spirit as have I worked up a certain level of trust with them.

Are ghosts / spirits real is one the reasons why so many paranormal groups are still going out there investigating today. This one of the key questions. From my experience I have the opinion that some things exist that cannot be explained by science, but I cannot prove this beyond any doubt. I do believe however that many alleged ghost / spirit sightings can be explained by science.

I always look to scientific explanations for alleged unexplained phenomena. I'm usually the first person to find a logical reason for alleged paranormal activity. I scrutinise events and evidence then I make sure my colleges have also considered all possible scientific explanations. I also ask other peoples opinions. I would never say, "I've seen a ghost" as this isn't a fact, but I would say that I believe I saw something unexplained that looked like a person. I would then look for any possible cause for this, reflections, shadows, smoke, fog, mist, other light sources, animals, something blowing in the wind, could it have been a real person, could I be tired or could I be hallucinating? Is there strong EMF fields around the location or lots of electrical equipment as strong extremely low frequency electro magnetic fields have been researched as it's believed they can cause mild hallucinations in some circumstances? If I was on any medication or if I was ill, I'd consider this also as a possible cause. Did anyone else see the anomaly to backup my claim? What was the temperature and the weather conditions at the time?

The equipment write up wasn't copied and pasted, but much of information was read from exact specifications to ensure accuracy. This information can't change as it's factual information. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I'm not an expert on copyrights, but I will look into it.

I can't prove 'orbs' are paranormal and I believe that a large number do have scientific explanations like dust, reflections or moisture. It's my opinion however that not all 'orbs' are caused by explainable phenomenon, but this cannot be proven beyond any doubt, so I wouldn't put this on a scientific report. I do notice however that we get these light anomalies more often in allegedly haunted locations, the longer these statistics are taken, the more likely the location has something to do with the anomalies whether it's because the locations are haunted or not. We have tried taking multiple photos in locations where no paranormal activity is reported to compare and will continue doing this. We also usually take a number of photographs in exactly the same location and often one photograph shows 'orbs', while another doesn't or they are in different places as if they have moved.

I'd love to gain formal qualifications in parapsychology and am fully aware of the amount of work and study it entails, but I've certainly got an excellent head start. It's one of my passions and long term goals.

In a reply to "whitewitch", we are open to all beliefs, we can only hope that other people are also open to ours. Unfortunately with the field of the paranormal, there will be different beliefs and practices. I agree that Meditation is amazing and good for spiritual development, I meditated years before I ever experienced Astral Projection and members are encourage to meditate when possible. One of our members even studied meditation as part of his course at Hereford college. I've visited Buddhist temples. Astral Projection remains controversial and some people even believe that it's an evil practice. Very highly educated people like Robert Bruce who wrote Mastering Astral Projection and Astral Dynamics however strongly believe and practice it, see http://www.astraldynamics.com for more details.

(This message replied to a previous message which has been withdrawn by the member about scientific and psychic investigation techniques)

As a psychic medium for BirminghamIU I am and strive not to be full off one line predictions but rather overflowing with endless pathways and possibilities whilst out on investigations of alleged paranormal activity or the unexplained which often occurs.

As a psychic I endeavour to clear the fog so that BirminghamIU scientific investigators can in fact see the true extent of an investigation both spiritually and scientifically.

I take all the pieces I pick-up on through mostly clairaudiance and clairvoyance and fit them all together so investigating members can see the bigger picture. I also use the sense of smell and touch to allow me to pick-up too and often helps whilst investigating.

I find it a big honour to work for BirminghamIU and I have learned greatly from our founding member Paul Carloss. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Paul for allowing me to learn from 12 years experience as a scientific investigator.

As a psychic i find that learning the scientific side helps me have a more broad knowledge of investigating not just the psychic side of investigating and helps to enhance my knowledge and beliefs as a psychic.

I am a messenger not a god and I find it a great honour to be allowed in to people lives, even the spiritual realms which exist amongst us as human beings on mother earth.

I always believe as a psychic that I have power and meaning and that we can only be given the true words we were given. I will always endeavour to further myself as a medium and help BirminghamIU and those who need the help of such a medium.

I am not just here to investigate but offer compassion, kindness, and empathy to spirits. Which to be honest can't be just done using scientific methods.

Can scientific non proven methods really communicate amongst the spiritual realms that exist?

Hence the fact that psychic and scientific really can work and be as one.

Hi Paul,

I know that we are totally two different groups researching human experience into ghosts, hauntings and poltergeists; although Midland Paranormal Investigations adapt a more scientific approach and do not use psychics or mediums.

Midland Paranormal Investigations would like to wish you all the best in your area of research and wish the whole of BirminghamIU a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Regards and best wishes,

Mark Cave.

I would just like agree that Birmingham Investigators of the Unknown use scientific and psychic investigation techniques and have no connection to Midland Paranormal Investigations who are a scientific research group.

BirminghamIU wish Mark (the lead co-ordinator of MPI) well. Thank you for the time I spent in MPI before I was a member of BirminghamIU.

Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
